Kazakhstan women’s national team wins 1 silver and 1 bronze at the Asian Games

01 october, 2014

Kazakhstan’s female boxer Zhayna Shekerbekova (51 kg) has unfortunately failed to win the final fight of the Asian Games. She has lost in the final to Indian Mary Kom.

The Kazakhstani boxer put up a decent fight to the 5-time world champion but Mary Kom scored more points – 2:0 (39:37, 38:38, 39:37). This is the first time for the Indian athlete to triumph in the Asian Games. As for our Zhayna, this silver medal in Incheon is her very first award in this tournament. In 2010 Zhayna has already won the title of champion of Asia.

Thus in the three weight categories of the boxing tournament, Kazakhstan’s women’s national team has won two medals. Just recently Marina Volnova (75 kg) has won the bronze medal in the same tournament. The athlete chosen for the under 60 kg category was Gulzhana Ubbiniyazova.
