The titles were also granted to the coaches who brought up these athletes.

Six Kazakhstanis were granted the title of the Athlete of the Year 2013, a Vesti.kz reporter informs. Their names were announced today in Astana.

Thus, four boxers at once were honored with such title: Daniyar Yeleusinov, Birzhan Zhakypov, Merei Akshalov, and Zhanibek Alimkhanuly. In addition, the ice-skater Denis Kuzin and Kazakhsha-Kures wrestler Aibek Nugymarov were granted the ‘Athlete of the Year’ title. It should be mentioned that two ‘best’ athletes were not present at the awarding ceremony: Akshalov is studying now and Kuzin is getting prepared for the Sochi Olympics.

Aibek Nugymarov, a world champion and the winner of Kazakhstan Barysy 2013, said: “For me and for other athletes such award is a proof of attention to my merits. The last year was quite successful for me. What do I want to achieve next year? Of course, I would like to defend my titles. I’m really pleased with the support from the whole country. So I want to remain the best in the future as well.”
