Another triumph for Kazakh boxing – our country will take part in the Women’s Boxing World Championship!

17 july, 2014

In February 2016 Kazakhstan will be participating in the Women’s Boxing World Championship.

Today the Executive Committee of the AIBA International Boxing Association has approved Kazakhstan’s application for hosting the Women’s Boxing World Championship. Kazakhstan had strong competitors in the contest to host the World Championship as China, England and Russia have also expressed the desire to host the competition in this sport which is rapidly gaining popularity in the whole world. However, the members of the AIBA Executive Committee were so impressed by the Kazakhstani presentation that 18 out of 20 votes were given to our country while China got the other two votes.

The prizes in the 2016 Championship include trips to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (the Olympic weight categories in women’s boxing are below 51 kg, below 60 kg and below 75 kg) which only doubles the honor of hosting this competition. Our country has already hosted the Junior Boxing World Championship in Astana in 2011 as well as the World Championship among Adults in Almaty in 2013. Four years ago Astana also hosted the Asian Women’s Boxing Championship.

The meeting of the AIBA Executive Committee is held annually in July. The most important aspects of the development of boxing in the world as well as the current situation and future development prospects are discussed during the meeting. On this year’s forum Kazakhstan will be represented by the executive director of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation (KFB) Bekzhan Bektenov and by vice presidents Yuri Tsai and Serik Konakbayev and the international communications coordinator Dinara Bolatbekkyzy.
