Ex-boxers of the Kazakhstan National Team Mr Birzhan Zhakypov and Mr Berik Abdrakhmanov have finished their amateur boxing career.
32-year-old Zhakypov, 49 kg weight category, took part at the Olympic Games three times (2008, 2012 and 2016) and each time lost his quarterfinal match. He is a 2013 World Champion, 2005 World Championships bronze medal winner, 2010 and 2014 Asian Championships silver medal winner and several times champion of the Kazakhstan National Championships. It is expected that Mr Zhakypov will become the deputy director of sports school in his hometown Shymkent soon.
30-year-old Abdrakhmanov, 60 kg weight category, at the 2016 Olympic Games lost his first bout against the American boxer Mr Carlos Balderas. 2013 was the most successful year for the boxer from Aktau when he became the champion of Asia and the World Championships bronze medal winner in Almaty.
